We all have hundreds of pictures saved in our smartphones and computers. Why should we bother to print the best images? Here are 5 reasons to print them before it is too late. 1) Prints are tangibleUnlike the digital version, you can actually touch, feel and smell a print. There are so many different texture that you can physically enjoy such as canvas paper, metal, acrylic, wood just to name a few. Studies have shown that our brains prefer the printed version of a photo, as well as of books. It seems that we enjoy them in a different way. 2) Prints last a long timeAccording to modern print labs, the ink and paper currently used to print may last up to 200 years before it starts to fade. Of course you have to keep them away from direct sun light and excessive humidity. On the other hand, the hard drive where you store your photos will eventually crash, get a virus or get corrupted. The images in your smartphone could be accidentally deleted or your phone lost or stolen. And your photo CD could get scratched by all the little things you store in the same drawer as the CD. 3) Prints won't be forgottenThat family portrait you have hang on the wall of your living room will be passed from generation to generation for years to come. If you believe cloud services such as Dropbox will keep your files safe forever, just think about have many companies come and go over the years. Even worse, if you die and take the password to the grave then those photos will be gone forever. 4) Prints won't get obsoleteRemember those floppy disks from about 20 years ago? Yea, I haven't seen them in a while either. Well, the same thing will likely happen with that CD or USB flash drive where you currently store your precious photos. That is what technology do to us. If your great-grand-son finds a thumb drive with pictures 60 years from now, he will have no way to see those photos because the technology will be so advanced that USB devices might no longer exist. 5) Prints are beautifulIf your photographer gave you a CD with your pictures, you will obviously not hang it on the wall. It will just end up collecting dust in a drawer unless you take the time to take it to your favorite photo lab. Once you hang a framed photo on your wall you will definitely beautify your home. Or you can create collages, or decorate your office, or print a photo book. If you want to see some canvases, frames, metals, acrylics and many different paper textures that can be used for your photos, then visit our studio in downtown Santa Ana and we will show you some samples.
